Colton School Reviews

Wonderful school. My daughter attended Kindergarten at Colton and what a truely amazing place. I was a little worried the first day watching a 5 year old go into a school with 12th graders but my fears were put to rest quickly. The older students act as mentors and look out for the younger ones. They give high 5's in the hall as they pass by and never once did I see a disrespectful or rude child. Everyone there from the staff to the teachers to the students are great. I can't say enough good things about the teachers, namely the kindergarten teacher. Unfortunatly we had to move. We haven't found another school that even comes close. The parent who claimed outsiders weren't welcome...I disagree. We were outsiders as well and were welcomed with open arms.

This is from the viewpoint of a sophomore who attended Colton school for 9 years. I did not enjoy the atmosphere of colton. The academics were limited and gifted students were not encouraged. I was appalled at the lack of professional behavior regarding the teachers and the poor counseling offered. Outsiders/nonfarmers are not socially accepted and the town is very inhospitable to these student. After realizing how limiting this school was, I transferred and realized in full that my new school was outstanding in comparison to Colton. I feel lucky that I transferred schools when I did so that I may receive a better education that encourages my academic gifts instead of stifling them.

We are new to the school district and our child comes home daily with a new appreciation for her education and educators. As parents we are pleased at the helpfulness of the staff. Our daughter has been welcomed with open arms and warm hearts by both staff and students. We are encouraging our extended family to also attend the Colton School District.

While the education is good, the social atmosphere is negative for any transfer student or outsider. This is a small town with a tight knit community, and kids who are different or haven't been here their whole lives have a hard time fitting in. When my kids went here, there was more emphasis on FFA and the county fair than on getting into college -- my daughter had to research, register and take the ACT and SAT on her own, and when her score was announced (32), the counselor told her it wasn't that great! That was the 98th percentile, doesn't get much better than that...but she was on her own for finding scholarships and any guidance, since she wasn't a farmer. Sometimes the trade offs aren't worth it to go to a smaller school.

I absolutely adore this school! Three of the teachers have encouraged me so much! The staff overall is wonderful and a delight to learn from and I realy feel as if I have gotten all that I could out of my education so far. I would highly recomend this school to any parent who is considering placing their child at this wonderful school. Please know that all of the staff have my full support and I am confident in their ability to give a full and excellent education to all of the young minds they are given.

to start this it the view of a 11th grade male student. i feel this school Is built around the few sports it offers. they might have a very large graduatin rate like 98% or something but only one student out of eatch graduating class stays in collage more than 2 years. this school also offers a very low amount of counceling in trying to get there students to go to collage Ie. not pushing students to take the sats. or ACT. in short i would say this school did not help me further my gole to be sucsessful in life and go on to collage. If I had a choice I would not go to coltin!

Very limited academics, there is one sport per season offered for both boys and girls, not enough kids for very many extracurricular activities. Parents are either too involved pushing their own desires or they aren't involved enough.
